The Maine Wire reported that an emergency bill clarifying Maine's existing ban on paper billing statement fees was signed into law. Senator Bailey's LD 2061 (An Act to Clarify the Prohibition on Paper Billing Statement Fees) closed definitional gaps that had allowed some financial institutions to continue charging customers for paper statements. The emergency designation meant the clarification took effect immediately upon signing, restoring the full consumer protection the original law was intended to provide.
